Ana Lucia: Ana Lucia is perhaps the most tragic character on Lost. A born outsider, Ana Lucia grows up to tough hardened L.A. police officer, where her mother operates as captain. As she mentions on the Island, Ana Lucia never made close friends and was never accepted by anyone else, eventually she stops trying to relate to people and doesn't let anyone in, even her own mother who tries so desperately reach her daughter. The true tragic nature of Ana Lucia is that every time when things start turning around for her, reality comes crashing down. When she was pregnant with her boyfriend's child, she gets shot by a house burglar. Following the miscarriage her boyfriend leaves, suggested that without the child there was nothing left for her in the relationship. Ana Lucia seeks revenge on her assailant, and even refuses to i.d. him so she can have her opportunity to murder him. She tracks him down later on and kills him in cold blood. This causes the already strained relationship she has with her mother to nearly break, and Ana Lucia quits the force, and takes off for Australia. Sadly just prior to the flight she calls her mother in Los Angelas and makes up with her, and Ana Lucia is happy. Following the crash her poor judge of character causes the death of one of the "tailies", and she eventually shoots Shannon when she mistakes her for an "Other". Cortez' Achilles' Heel is her poor judgment, she almost always makes the wrong assumption, and they almost always have tragic consequences. Her last act involved her decision not to kill Henry Gale, who had previously attempted to murder her. Ana Lucia realizes she can't keep going on as a hardened killer, recovering back her humanity which is always so frail for her character. Unfortunately, this decision leads to her death, and she never fully comes to peace with her self. Ironically Ana Lucia who was never "accepted" by society, was one of the least popular characters on Lost, specifically for the previous reasons. Never the less, she is one of the more intriguing characters, and one of the most fully realized, thanks to a superb performance by Michelle Rodriguez. Ana Lucia was a great character who never got her due. As for her 1954 counter part I think Lauren Bacall would be a perfect fit. Bacall was constantly playing the bad girl, and I think she would thrive in the role. Her striking looks and conspicuous Husky voice also make her similar to the original portrayal of Ana Lucia.

ReplyDeleteBullshit! I'm sorry, but this is bullshit. Ana-Lucia was one of seven people responsible for Nathan's death. And Nathan was one of them. The person who is mainly responsible for Nathan's death was Goodwin Stanhope. He really did not have to kill Nathan. And I cannot believe that most people blame Ana-Lucia, instead of Nathan's actual killer. That is sick.
