Sun-Hwa Kwon/Jin-Soo Kwon: Sun and her husband Jin got through arguably the greatest romance in television history. At the beginning of the series Sim appears to be a very obedient housewife to Jin's domineering husband. But what isn't revealed until flashback, is Jin's tragic lose of humanity at the hands of Sun's criminal overlord father. To do whatever he can to provide for his beautiful wife, Jin takes on the role of hit man for Sun's father Mr. Paik. This work takes its toll on Jin and he transforms from the good-hearted romantic that Sun fell in love with, to an unbearable monster who has finally forced Sun to consider abandoning. But when he shows a glimpse of his old self through a romantic gesture at the airport before their flight, Sun decides to not give up on the man that she loves (despite both their past discretion's). Over the course of Lost's six seasons Sun's and Jin's relationship goes through a long trial of forgiveness, renewal, pain, separation, re-unity, grief, loss, and pure exaltation. As an obvious huge fan of Lost, I thought the final season was a little weak, though still rewarding; but the Kwon's love story definitely made them the two most satisfying character arcs on the show from start to finish. For the Golden Age version of Lost, it would be hard to find two Korean actors to play the parts of Sun and Jin. So I adjusted their background from a South Korean couple with ganpae ties, to and Italian couple connected with the Sicillian La Cosa Nostra. The part of Sun came to me right away, her virtue, her despair, her grief over her own marriage infidelities pointed me to one woman: the great Ingrid Bergman. This would've been during her European period after the marital scandal she went through that nearly destroyed her career. The role of Sun could've been her big comeback. And for Jin I cast another non-Italian for this Italian role, Burt Lancaster. I know he didn't speak Italian even though he starred in and Italian feature, The Leopard, but I can think of no other actor who would be able to portray Jin's fierce strength and Gentle sensitivity better than Burt. If he can struggle through some of the Italian in the first season, (we could even do the flashback sequences in English, after the Sicilian setting is established) than I fell like Lancaster would be perfect for the part. And I think he would have a lot of fun once he gets to Jin's raft period, speaking broken English and bonding with Sawyer and Michael.
