Desmond Hume/Penny Widmore: Following the Season 2 finale, Desmond Hume emerged as probably the most popular character on Lost. His easy going flare and magnetic personality drew people in while his self sacrifice and redemptive travails to win back his honor hooked millions of viewers. After saving everyone on Island by sacrificing himself in the Hatch's fail safe, Desmond emerges unharmed and with the ability of precognition, described further in "The Constant". For as great a character Desmond is (and Henry Ian Cusick is superb), there really is no story for him without Penny. Penny Widmore, daughter of Billionaire industrialist Charles Widmore, falls for Desmond shortly after he resigns from the monastery. This proves problematic as Charles does everything in his power to keep the two apart. Their story is essentially Desmond seeking to restore his honor so he can prove himself worthy of her love following a past flee from commitment. A love story that intertwines with both time, space and metaphysics. Deborah Kerr, the lone Scott in this rendition of Lost, would fit perfectly into the role of Penny. Kerr was arguably the most versatile actress of her time, and displayed great emotional range as well in films as varied as From Here to Eternity, Black Narcissus, The Sundowners, and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. For Desmond I chose the actor who I feel can best bring his vibrancy to screen, Anthony Quinn. Quinn, a Mexican American actor displayed a great range of characters throughout his career, emotionally, physically and ethnically. I'm sure he could pull of playing the Scottish Desmond, while still portraying him to the depths that Cusick took the character.
