Boone and Shannon are step siblings harboring a dark secret when the crash-land on the Island. Boone is a well meaning guy who wants to be helpful and does what he can to pitch in. Shannon is his younger step sister who doesn't get along with her step mother after her father dies and has low self esteem. She compensates by being mean to others and behaving in narcissistic self-centered ways, vapidly only caring about her appearance following the crash. Boone and Shannon constantly bicker as he tries to get her to be more helpful. It takes a Locke spiritual intervention to finally get Boone to get over his harbored love for his step sister, and move on. And eventually Shannon shows some signs of growth on the island when she and Sayid star dating, restoring some of her confidence. Tragically before either of these character fully grow they succumb to premature deaths, Boone in season 1, Shannon in season 2. I think a young Paul Newman, and Joanne Woodward, would best suit these parts, and it would be very interesting to see the Tracy-Newman mentor ship occur on screen.
